Center for Civic Literacy

A Focus on Awareness for the Center – Connecting with the Community

Contact: Don Jackson; Karen Anisman

The Center for Civic Literacy is TCU’s direct response to a national movement to encourage civic engagement. Perhaps as best represented by Robert Putnam’s important book, BOWLING ALONE: THE COLLAPSE AND REVIVAL OF AMERICAN COMMUNITY, most of the indicators of civic engagement by American citizens have been in decline for more than forty years.

We need to raise awareness of the programs of our Center for Civic Literacy and to find better ways (and perhaps better venues than the TCU campus) so that our programs to play a significant role in the community. Very little has been firmly established, so we are open to the ideas and suggestions of others. We hope we can work together and learn together to build a better Center for Civic Literacy.
