{"id":447,"date":"2018-09-18T01:48:39","date_gmt":"2018-09-18T07:48:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadershipfortworth.org\/staging\/?p=447"},"modified":"2022-06-15T08:49:37","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T14:49:37","slug":"leadershipclass-issues-initiative-2017-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadershipfortworth.org\/staging\/news\/leadershipclass-issues-initiative-2017-2018","title":{"rendered":"LeadershipClass Issues Initiative 2017-2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A unique element of LeadershipClass is the execution of Issues Initiative projects performed by participant teams that positively impact the Fort Worth Community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These carefully identified strategic projects allow all class members to gain in-depth knowledge about a specific community problem, to interact with those most involved with that issue and to connect their resources and networks to make a positive difference.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Issues of concern in the community are identified in conjunction with the mayor and other content experts. Teams of (8-12 depending on class size) class members work together throughout the program year using a structured approach to develop solutions that will ultimately be presented to key community stakeholder audiences and the LFW Forum membership.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THE GOALS<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goals of the LFW Issues Initiatives are to complete high-impact projects that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Augment a local non-profit&#8217;s staffing with talented volunteer resources that help them address an issue that they could not otherwise tackle<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establish clear objectives and specific, tangible outcomes that will clearly benefit the community<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deliver solutions that are data-based (research component)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engage external resources (sources from class member networks) in a meaningful way<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide knowledge transfer of the solution, including key steps for sustainability, to the non-profit and its key stakeholders<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THE CHALLENGE\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What will be different in our community because of each Issues Initiative project?Is the plan realistic? Are the results tangible? Will the results stick?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>CREATING A RESILIENT AND TRAUMA-AWARE COMMUNITY<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mental Health Connection<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The problem:\u00a0 Trauma is pervasive in the lives of individuals and communities. Consequences include illness, reduced income, crime, job loss, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Innovative intervention:\u00a0 Created comprehensive communication plan to reach key community stakeholders; piloted with selected stakeholders. Created ambassador program to engage the business community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>RECRUITING LOCAL FOSTER CARE FAMILIES<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Community. Our Kids. (A division of ACH Services)<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The problem:\u00a0 An inadequate number of local families is signing up as foster parents, so children have to move to different cities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Innovative intervention:\u00a0 Created a customizable video for recruiting families; developed an improved strategy \/ toolkit for recruiting local foster parents; developed training materials and piloted them with foster agency recruiting staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>PREVENTING FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guardianship Services<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The problem:\u00a0 Financial exploitation of vulnerable adults is a largely silent problem in Tarrant County. Until recently, perpetrators were rarely prosecuted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Innovative intervention:\u00a0 Created infrastructure for tracking client \/ community contacts. Engaged banks through a targeted communication plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>OVERCOMING MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE VETERAN WORKFORCE:<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fort Worth Veteran Professionals<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The problem: Highly qualified veterans experience difficulty in obtaining jobs because many employers hold multiple stereotypes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Innovative intervention: Created and piloted a high-level employer presentation and handout materials including a customizable brochure<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>COMMUNITY-WIDE BOARD TRAINING\/BOARD BANK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leadership Fort Worth and United Way<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The problem:\u00a0 No ongoing, community-wide program is in place to recruit and train emerging, diverse leaders for nonprofit board service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Innovative intervention:\u00a0 Developed complete business plan for an online nonprofit board training \/ board bank; created outlines of seven training modules; developed relationship with Four Day Weekend for delivering the training<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To learn more about our LeadershipClass program, please <a href=\"https:\/\/leadershipfortworth.org\/staging\/leadershipclass\">visit<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A unique element of LeadershipClass is the execution of Issues Initiative projects performed by participant teams that positively impact the Fort Worth Community.
