{"id":876,"date":"2022-06-14T11:07:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-14T16:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadershipfortworth.org\/staging\/?p=876"},"modified":"2022-06-29T01:24:23","modified_gmt":"2022-06-29T06:24:23","slug":"leaderkids-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadershipfortworth.org\/staging\/news\/leaderkids-events","title":{"rendered":"LeaderKids Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><b>PARENT\/STUDENT ORIENTATION<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parents and students meet LeaderKids staff and TCU Student Mentor Co-chairs for an overview of the LeaderKids year.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>FACILITATION TRAINING AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT TRAINING<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TCU Mentors receive training in facilitation from Girls Inc. and additional training in project management from an expert in this field from Fidelity Investments.\u00a0 Fidelity Investments will furnish LeaderKids with five additional project management experts to answer questions and guide LeaderKids in developing and implementing a service project in May.\u00a0 LeaderKids will begin work on this project at the January meeting.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>OPENING EVENT\/ORIENTATION<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TCU hosts the LeaderKids first meeting\u00a0 \u201ca mini Frog Camp experience\u201d.\u00a0 LeaderKids meet students from 27 middle schools represented in the program and meet their mentors for the year \u2013 including TCU student leaders and Leadership Fort Worth members.\u00a0 Focus in on learning new ways to communicate, build teamwork, improve oral presentations to groups, and explore career choices to utilize the talents and qualities our students develop.\u00a0 The students are introduced to the Five Leadership Practices which are a major part of our curriculum.\u00a0 This is done through creative activities and ice-breakers.\u00a0 The Practices are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Model the Way<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inspire a Shared Vision<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Challenge the Process<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enable Others to Act<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encourage the Heart<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b>LEADERSHIP SKILLS TRAINING<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students receive an overview of all five Leadership Practices at this outdoor low elements session.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students learn how to work as a cohesive unit, make new connections, set goals, take care of others, adapt to reach goals, recognize how one\u2019s actions affect the whole, step into places of risk, encourage others and celebrate successes.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>LEADERSHIP IN PUBLIC SAFETY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeaderKids visit the new Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex to learn about careers in public safety and law enforcement. This is the new combined headquarters and training academy for the Fort Worth Police Department and the Fort Worth Fire Department.\u00a0 Students learn about jobs in law enforcement and how to prepare for those jobs.\u00a0 They learn information about social media, and how to safeguard information on Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.\u00a0 The Leadership Practice highlighted at this session is \u201cEnable Others to Act\u201d.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>LEADERSHIP IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeaderKids explore the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.\u00a0 They will see the State Dinosaur of Texas discovered by children in nearby Glen Rose, Texas, tour the DinoLabs exhibit, see the 4-D exhibit Energy Blast, the Innovation Labs and the Noble Planetarium.\u00a0 The TCU mentors will conduct activities to highlight the leadership practice \u201cChallenge the Process\u201d. \u00a0 We begin our service project planning with project management experts from Fidelity Investments and TCU Mentors.\u00a0 Planning will continue at each monthly meeting until our project day on May 16, 2017.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>LEADERSHIP IN HIGH EDUCATION<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeaderKids visit the Trinity River Campus of Tarrant County College in downtown Fort Worth. Our students learn they can study for dual credit classes while still in high school and can obtain a two-year Associates Degree.\u00a0 Students tour the campus and hear from TCC students. This meeting will highlight the leadership practice \u201cEncourage the Heart\u201d.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>LEADERSHIP IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL AREA<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeaderKids visit the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT).\u00a0 BRIT is an international scientific research and learning center focused on conservation and knowledge sharing.\u00a0 This meeting will highlight the leadership practice \u201cModel the Way\u201d.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>LEADERSHIP IN SMALL BUSINESS\/ENTREPRENEURSHIP<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeaderKids visit small businesses and entrepreneurs on Magnolia Avenue.\u00a0 The students will learn what these business owners think are the keys to their success. They offer\u00a0 \u201dWords of Widsom\u201d like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do what you are passionate about<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be yourself<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never stop learning<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Surround yourself with good people<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t be afraid to fail<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Give back to and re-invest in the community where you thrive<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>LEADERKIDS IN ACTION<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beautification and Support of the FWISD Reading Enrichment Program<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Tuesday, May 16 LeaderKids will spend the day at Maude Logan Elementary School, 2300 Dillard St., completing a community service project.\u00a0 Preliminary plans include beautification of campus grounds and creation of reading nooks to support FWISD\u2019s \u201c100 X 25 initiative\u201d\u00a0 (with a goal of 100% of third graders reading at grade level by Year 2025).\u00a0 LeaderKids will plan, dream, brainstorm, create, budget and prepare for the project from January through April with Fidelity project planning specialists.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PARENT\/STUDENT ORIENTATION Parents and students meet LeaderKids staff and TCU Student Mentor Co-chairs for an overview of the LeaderKids year.
